I received sponsorship from UNISON who met the costs of drafting, developing and publicising my proposed Members’ Bill - Direct Elections to National Health Service Boards (Scotland) Bill. The value of this sponsorship was between £4,001 and £5,000.

I received sponsorship from the University of Stirling by participating in a summer internship scheme between June 2004 and 6 August 2004. The intern carried out research work for which 50% of their salary was met by the University of Stirling (with a monetary value of between £501 and £1,001) and 50% was met by me (with a monetary value of between £501 and £1,001).

On 10 May 2004 I visited Berlin and spoke at an international conference on codes of conduct for political consulting. My flights and one night’s accommodation cost £260 and were paid for by the conference organiser, the Friedrich-Ebert Foundation.

Between 8 and 14 June 2008 I represented the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Scotland Branch at the 20th CPA Seminar in Ottawa, Canada. The theme of the conference was strengthening parliamentary democracy. The costs of the flights were £3,100 and were paid for by the CPA Scotland Branch. Between 1 November 2005 and 1 April 2006 I received administrative support for one day per week from a volunteer. The volunteer was carrying out research in their own free time and free of charge and received no payment from me.

The Scottish Co-operative Party made a donation of £1,000 towards expenses incurred by my candidature at the 2007 Scottish Parliament election. No payment was received by me personally but was paid directly to Glasgow North West Labour Party.

I visited Aldermaston, England on 11 and 12 June 2006. Flights and overnight accommodation were paid for by the Scottish Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and cost approximately £200.
